Plastic Machining
We were asked to manufacture a ‘nobbly’ roller to replace an existing heavy metal roller. We only had a sample to work to. We had to reverse engineer this part, armed only with the knowledge the roller was used to knead dough and had to be lighter and longer than the sample.
- Firstly we modeled the part in 3D to allow us to form a basis to create a Cad Cam program.

- We then wrote the program and outputted it to our 4th axis equipped machine.
- We chose natural Acetal as our base material as this is FDA approved food safe and it is a hard durable plastic
- The program ran an initial roughing cut and then we finished it with a ball nose cutter.
